Short Biography
Konstantinos Skordas is Professor of Environmental Geochemistry at the Department of Agriculture, Ichthyology and Aquatic Environment of the School of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Thessaly. His basic studies were completed at the Department of Geological Sciences of the University of Urbino, Italy. He received his PhD at the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). He has worked for many years as a Geologist and Environmental Researcher and has carried out a large number of geological, geochemical, petrographic and environmental studies.
He has taken part in 15 research programs funded by European, National and Private funds. He participated in many conferences-symposia-workshops, many of which he also organized. He is a regular member of 7 scientific societies-chambers-associations. He teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate level courses such as Environmental Geochemistry, Geochemistry, Ecotoxicology, Environmental Pollution and Coastal Geomorphology. Throughout his academic career, he has supervised and guided the preparation of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral theses.
The main part of his research activity concerns environmental geochemical research and the burden-pollution of waters, sediments and soils by metals and metalloids. He also dealt with the accumulation of metals and metalloids in aquatic organisms and with the quality of surface and groundwater as well as their salinization.
He has published many scientific articles in internationally renowned journals and scientific conferences and is a reviewer in 10 international scientific journals, as well as in 3 international conferences.
He is also an evaluator of scholarships for the Greek National Social Security Fund. He was one of the main contributors to the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece for the consolidation of the geotechnical profession. He represented and represents the Geotechnical Chamber in many bodies. He served as president of the Geotechnical Chamber, Central Greece Branch, from which he was awarded for his valuable and long-standing contribution to the geotechnical sector.
